The 4th of July falling on a Monday means an extra day to celebrate this weekend. In addition to fireworks and barbecues, there are some fun community celebrations going on in or around Charlottesville.
Keswick Vineyards is throwing a Reds, Whites, and Bluegrass event starting at noon on July 4th. Enjoy the beautiful Virginia countryside views, taste a variety of wines, listen to some folky blues, and try some delicious fare from Popito’s Pizza, Just a Bite Foods, and Twisted Biscuit.
Carter Mountain is hosting their annual “Happy Birthday America” event on July 4th, from 6pm-10pm. Catch their fabulous fireworks show atop the mountain overlooking Charlottesville. Enjoy live music, face painting, cotton candy, and local food from Vision BBQ, Two Brothers Southwestern Grill, and Sweet Jane’s Kitchen, Not to mention all of the ice cream, apple cider donuts, and other sweet treats you can always find at Carter Mountain. Adult beverages are also available.
James Monroe Highland is hosting a free Independence Day Concert and Celebration. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the classical ensemble from the Heifetz International Music Institute. Monday, July 4th, from 2pm-4pm.
The Crozet Independence Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 2nd. The parade begins at Crozet Elementary School and ends at Claudius Crozet Park. Live music, bounce houses, and several food and beer vendors will be there. The parade begins at 5pm, and the fireworks at 9:30pm. Learn more.
Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene is a free, family-friendly event in Stanardsville. Start your day with a 4th of July parade on Main Street. Be sure to return to Morris Field at 6pm (13510 Spotswood Trail) for some live bluegrass music, local food trucks, and one of Virginia’s largest annual firework productions by the Capital Sheds Community Fireworks Display.
Less than an hour from Charlottesville, Wintergreen Resort’s July 4th Jubilee (happening on July 3rd) is an all-day celebration with a block party, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30pm.
If you’re up for another beautiful hour-long drive outside Charlottesville, the Balloons Over Rockbridge festival in Lexington offers an entire weekend of fun. Hot air balloons (including tethered flights), local bands, children’s activities, beer and wine, and a variety of food and merchandise vendors will be at the festival on Saturday, July 2nd, & Sunday, July 3rd beginning at 2pm at the Oak Hill Property of the Virginia Horse Center, Lexington VA.
Celebrate July 4th at Graves Mountain Lodge in Madison County. All proceeds benefit the Madison Volunteer Fire Dept & Rescue Squad. Enjoy their picnic menu, a buffet dinner at the Farm Restaurant (reservations required), live music, pony rides, and fireworks beginning around 9pm. Bring your lawn chairs!
